The GTX Notebook System is the newest generation of Finisar Protocol Analyzers designed with
Field Service and Application Engineers in mind. This small footprint, lap top-based analyzer
puts the power of the desktop GTX system into a portable platform. The GTX Notebook supports
the main topology segments: Fibre Channel, InfiniBand, and iSCSI and is the most cost effective GTX
protocol analyzer available today.
Error Injection: With the GTX-J Jammer Module installed in Finisar's GTX Notebook Systems, you
can inject errors into the network in real time and verify that the recovery process operates correctly.
Each Jammer Module has a single simplex port for insertion between two network devices such as a
host bus adapter and a storage system, hub, or switch. The GTX-J is transparent to the system,
acting like an additional length of cable. Data passes through the module until it detects a specific
sequence of events. The Jammer makes a user-defined modification to a specified frame or ordered
set, and the module returns to pass-through mode.
BERT: The GTX-B Bit Error Rate Tester, offers needed flexibility in composition of scripts, patterns
generated, bit rates, metrics reported and isolation of error causing patterns. You're able to start
scripting from a provided library of Fibre Channel frames and Ordered Sets with editing at the 8B or
10B level. The specified edits are used to generate an output and compare list a list of words. You
can also continuously loop through the transmitted list utilizing a synchronizing pulse per loop to aid
in debugging with an oscilloscope or logic analyzer. Bit error test with standard jitter patterns or use
dynamic counters to run through all possible data values.
Generator: The GTX-G Generator is a powerful test tool, which enables the user to generate data to
test both Fibre Channel and Inifiband networks. The Generator works in conjunction with Finisar's
GTX-Notebook Systems to allow users to generate and view detailed network responses.
The GTX Notebook supports both 2.125 Gbit/sec. and 1.062 Gbit/sec. clock rates, for Fibre
Channel(InfiniBand at 2.50Gbit/sec) --an industry first for portables. The GTX Notebook captures
link data and displays in both Fibre Channel and embedded protocol formats. It displays link
performance metrics and error conditions in real time. Intended for Fibre Channel product design,
test, and service, the GTX-Notebook is the first member of Finisar’s new GTX family of Portable 2
Gbit/sec data rate instruments.
GTX Notebook Protocol Analysis Systems is available as a single dual channel GTX-Notebook
analyzer. Each analyzer captures data on both ports of a duplex link. The GTX-Notebook Analyzer
has up to 2Gbytes of full speed capture memory, spanning over 4 seconds of time on a fully loaded
2Gbit/sec link, including 48 bit timestamp for each frame, repeating ordered set, or error. Real-time
pre-capture filtering can expand the capture time to minutes.
Real-Time Performance Monitoring
Real-time performance monitoring shows potential problem
areas allowing you to keep abreast of your networks health.
The integrated GTX-Performance Monitor collects and graphically
reports real-time performance metrics and data errors
continuously, independent of the data capture process. View a
display of megabytes and kilo frames of traffic for each direction
of the link.

Trigger and Filter Conditions Defined Simply
Different analysis functions may require the user to define specific
traffic types and conditions. Parameters for triggering and realtime
capture filtering need to be defined to acquire specific
segments of traffic. Viewing captured data requires search and
display filter terms. Finisar has integrated these needs into a
Traffic Library containing predefined and user-defined templates
for frames, ordered sets, errors. Terms of the library need only
be defined once then applied with an easy to use windows-like
drag-and-drop capability. Terms can be defined in binary, HEX,
or embedded protocol context.
The GTX Notebook attaches to the Fibre Channel link with Finisar
Instrument Grade GBIC transceivers, capable of 2.5 Gbit/sec data rates.
Finisar’s GTX-TraceView is extremely flexible. This data viewing and analysis
software provides a fully configurable, spreadsheet-oriented presentation. Link
traffic is displayed in time-ordered rows. Fibre Channel and embedded protocol
parameters, such as SCSI, IP and FICON/SB2, can be uniquely assigned to
individual data columns. Any column can be displayed in HEX, protocol
interpretation or user-defined text. Display data in multiple columns, each with
a different format. Reorder columns and set them to display data from any
analyzer port. View traffic errors as the 10 bit word received on the link.
A display can be arranged to simultaneously show multiple perspectives of the
data. Fibre Channel and SCSI protocol parameters can all be assigned to
individual columns. It’s equivalent to having both Fibre Channel analyzer and
SCSI analyzer displays on one screen.
TraceView also provides navigation, search and filtering tools to aid
in identifying events of interest. TraceView provides a graphical
presentation of the captured traffic so repeating data patterns,
data bursts, and quiet periods can easily be found and examined
in detail. There are two data density histograms at the bottom of
the display. The lower histogram shows data density across entire
data capture, while the upper trace is a user-selectable expansion.
The two view allow the user to quickly pick out interesting events,
zoom to them, and display the individual event records on the
spread sheet above.
Search and filter templates can be defined to pinpoint unique
events or event sequences. Templates are created and saved in
the drag-and-drop Event Library.
TraceView will run on any NT-based computer. Data segments can
be exported in Finisar or ASCII formats. Files can be automatically
compressed and prepared for e-mailing. Several users, in various
locations, can independently review a captured data set.
